One of my earliest memories from childhood is walking through a forest with my grandmother near Bijambare, a rural area about 45-minutes outside of Sarajevo, as she taught me to harvest sap from the trees while I delighted in her wisdom and the natural elements that surrounded us. The cabin home we returned to with that sap, purchased by my grandparents in the 70s, was turned into a military fort during the war that disassembled Yugoslavia in the early 1990s. When I went back to visit the cabin in the early 2000s, hoping to find some semblance of the childhood I had left behind, I was instead met with dozens of “WARNING LANDMINES” signs – that feeling of devastation has never left me.
This story captures two sides of who I am today. The first, a nature lover looking to preserve the natural elements that we so often take for granted. The second, a human justice advocate who continues to strive to understand how we can work together to achieve common goals.
To that end, I’m all about partnership, collaboration and cross-pollination. I’ve worked with dozens of companies and nonprofits over the past 15 years to support early-stage growth and social impact initiatives. I like to enter the sandbox when the the mission is clear but the strategy and “how-to” are not.
